The euro showed a muted reaction following the release of Germany's September HCOB flash purchasing managers' index data, trading at 1.14172 against the U.S. dollar, maintaining its recent subdued trend. The data signaled mixed fundamentals for the German economy, offering no clear directional guidance for the single currency.

**Manufacturing Rebounds but Services Under Pressure**

Preliminary data published by S&P Global showed Germany's manufacturing PMI rose to 52.2 in July, hitting a four-month high, indicating a clear rebound in factory activity. This positive trend also extended to the broader eurozone, where the manufacturing PMI edged up from 51.4 to 51.9 over the same period. However, the latest September data painted a mixed picture, partially offsetting the positive manufacturing signals and keeping the market cautious about the sustainability of the eurozone's economic recovery.

**Dollar Stability Intersects with Cooling Fed Expectations**

Another factor behind the euro's weakness is the recent stabilization of the U.S. dollar. Analysts at Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group noted that the steepening of the U.S. Treasury yield curve has accelerated, with the 30-year yield briefly touching 5.32%, its highest level since 2007, providing support for the dollar. However, according to CME FedWatch tool data, as of last week, the probability of a Fed rate hike at its next meeting had fallen to 36.6%, down notably from 48.4% a week earlier. Cooling expectations for hawkish policy may limit further upside for the dollar.

**Euro Lacks Direction in the Near Term**

Overall, the German PMI data failed to alter the euro's recent consolidation pattern. With insufficient evidence of a eurozone economic recovery and uncertainty surrounding U.S. interest rate prospects, market participants are awaiting more data to assess the outlook for monetary policy divergence between the U.S. and Europe. The euro against the dollar may continue to trade in a narrow range near current levels in the short term.
