Micron Technology shares traded lower in Friday morning trading, as investors weighed a softer tech sector backdrop against strong AI-driven memory demand, elevated pricing, and fresh policy uncertainty.

Nasdaq futures fell 0.25%, while S&P 500 futures edged up 0.01%. The move also comes after Micron's substantial rally over the past 12 months, with the stock now consolidating near short-term trend levels.

Nvidia Intensifies Memory Supply Tightness

Micron remains at the core of the AI-driven memory supercycle, but investors continue to balance robust demand against rising costs and elevated expectations.

The stock also declined on Thursday, as investors took profits after a 189.28% year-to-date gain.

The pullback follows Nvidia's earnings report, which reflected both strong AI infrastructure momentum and supply constraints.

Nvidia CFO Colette Kress said the company faces "extreme pricing conditions" in the memory segment, adding that price increases have exceeded prior expectations and could rise further next year.

Nvidia sources high-bandwidth memory from Micron, SK Hynix, and Samsung.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said demand could grow roughly 100% next year, while supply constraints could cap expected revenue growth at around 70%.

Gartner Sees Memory Driving Semiconductor Growth

Gartner expects sustained AI infrastructure spending and higher memory prices to drive global semiconductor revenue up 92% in 2026 to approximately $1.6 trillion, reaching about $1.9 trillion in 2027.

The firm forecasts memory revenue to surge from $220.1 billion in 2025 to $837.3 billion in 2026, surpassing $1 trillion in 2027.

Gartner projects DRAM revenue to grow 246.6% this year and NAND revenue to jump 371.9%, keeping Micron, Samsung, and SK Hynix in the spotlight.

Trump Highlights Micron's U.S. Expansion

President Donald Trump praised Micron's new $10 billion U.S. R&D investment, which builds on its previous $25 billion domestic manufacturing commitment.

Micron previously announced the establishment of a Micron Research Lab, centered on its Boise, Idaho campus, focused on memory and AI technologies.

Micron is also the only U.S.-based high-bandwidth memory manufacturer, and the U.S. government views it as a critical component of domestic AI supply chain security.

Semiconductor Tariffs Add Policy Risk

The Trump administration is reportedly considering new semiconductor tariffs, covering products including data center servers, laptops, and gaming consoles.

Tech companies have pushed back, warning that higher costs could slow the pace of AI data center construction.

For Micron, the current landscape features strong memory demand and expanding U.S. investment, alongside rising costs, tariff uncertainty, and elevated investor expectations following a sharp share-price run.
