September 8 news, according to foreign media reports, US Treasury Secretary Bessent's resolve to support the bond market is about to face a test. At 11 AM Eastern Time on Wednesday (23:00 Beijing time), the US Treasury will announce the maximum amount of 10- to 20-year US Treasury bonds it plans to repurchase. On September 10, the US Treasury will also release the exact amount of bonds actually purchased under the buyback program initiated in May 2024. Previously, the US Treasury stated that before November 4, it would repurchase at least $4 billion of long-term Treasury bonds each time it buys back from the market, higher than the $2 billion in previous operations. However, the Treasury retains the discretion to expand the scale of buybacks as needed. Meanwhile, the market widely expects that Bessent's intervention will ultimately exceed the previously announced buyback targets.
