Samsung Electronics is deepening its investment in advanced semiconductor manufacturing as artificial intelligence drives demand for more powerful, efficient, and cost-effective memory and logic chips.

Samsung has expanded its strategic partnership with ASML Holding, strengthening collaboration on high numerical aperture extreme ultraviolet lithography and other advanced manufacturing technologies.

Samsung Joins 12-Inch Photomask Initiative

Samsung will join an industry initiative to develop 12-inch photomasks, replacing the 6-inch standard that the semiconductor industry has used for decades.

The two companies expect that larger masks combined with high-NA EUV will improve factory productivity, lower chip manufacturing costs, and eliminate stitching limitations. This shift could help manufacturers capture more of the benefits of high-NA EUV and make future cutting-edge chip production more economical.

Samsung plans to work with ASML and other industry partners to develop the necessary mask technology and supporting infrastructure.

The company has expertise in both memory and foundry manufacturing, along with experience using advanced EUV lithography.

Samsung Targets High-NA DRAM Production by 2028

Samsung also plans to bring ASML's high-NA EUV technology to mass production of DRAM by 2028, which the two companies say will mark the first such deployment of the technology in the industry.

The company expects the higher resolution of high-NA EUV to extend DRAM's scaling roadmap while simplifying manufacturing processes and improving efficiency.

The two companies also plan to explore further collaboration in advanced memory and new manufacturing methods.

Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman and CEO Jun Young-hyun said AI is elevating the importance of technological innovation across the entire semiconductor supply chain.

ASML CEO Christophe Fouquet called Samsung one of the company's most important long-term innovation partners, adding that closer collaboration will become increasingly important as AI reshapes semiconductor demand.

ASML share price movement: ASML Holding shares rose 2.95% in pre-market trading Tuesday to $1,765.50.
